The waist-to-height ratio (WHtR) is one of the most powerful single measurements for predicting cardiometabolic risk — often outperforming BMI in clinical studies.

The "keep your waist to less than half your height" rule maps to WHtR < 0.5.
Why waist-to-height ratio?
Multiple meta-analyses have found that WHtR outperforms BMI in predicting hypertension, type 2 diabetes, dyslipidemia, and cardiovascular disease. This is because it specifically captures central adiposity — abdominal fat — rather than total body mass.
The simplest rule: keep your waist size to less than half your height. A 170 cm person should aim for a waist under 85 cm.
