Your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is the number of calories your body needs to perform basic life-sustaining functions — breathing, circulation, cell production — at rest.

The Mifflin-St Jeor formula.

♂ BMR = (10 × kg) + (6.25 × cm) − (5 × age) + 5

♀ BMR = (10 × kg) + (6.25 × cm) − (5 × age) − 161

Developed by Mifflin and St Jeor in 1990, this formula is consistently rated as the most accurate for most people in systematic reviews. It replaced the older Harris-Benedict equation (1919) as the clinical standard.
